10th European Conference on Severe Storms

Aquesta setmana (entre els dies 4 i 8 de novembre) s'està celebrant a Cracòvia (Polònia) la "European Conference on Severe Storms" (ECSS) on es presenten els resultats de campanyes d'observació, novetats en modelització, casos d'estudi, algoritmes aplicats a eines de teledetecció per a identificar patrons de temps sever, etc. Un espai d'intercanvi de coneixement entre científics d'arreu del món. 

Des de Catalunya s'hi han desplaçat membres del Servei Meteorològic de Catalunya, de la Universitat de Barcelona i de la Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya, i han fet les següents contribucions: 

• Towards a better understanding of the role of topography in the motion of severe storms in Catalonia: First results with C-band dual-Doppler analysis (del Moral et al., 2019)
• Severe weather patterns of a tornadic event associated to a squall line in the western Mediterranean region (Pineda et al., 2019) 
• High speed video campaigns and meteorological conditions related to Gigantic Jets in Colombia (van der Velde et al., 2019) 
• Verification of heavy rain warning in Catalonia (Gallego et al., 2019) 
• An early severe weather warning system in the Meteorological Service of Catalonia (Figuerola et al., 2019) 
• Study of upper air conditions in tornadic and waterspout events in the Iberian Peninsula and Balearic Islands using ERA5 reanalysis data (Rodríguez and Bech, 2019)
